Quality Time

It can be difficult making alone time for individual gymnasts. Although every minute of our working day is practically scheduled, there are a few things you can do to squeeze in some quality time with your students separately. Keep in mind, time is relative. The walk from the cubbies to the bar stations you are about to begin might only be a 15 second trip, but to a child who identifies with the Quality Time language of love, it might feel like 15 minutes especially if you are giving all of your attention to them and sharing some meaningful small talk.

Here are some other ways you can squeeze in some Quality Time

-During stretches!
This can work especially well if you are working with another coach at this time, or if you occasionally allow one of your gymnasts to lead stretches. While you are making rounds for form correction, linger with one of your kiddos who you know thrives on that QT with some TLC!

-Before practice starts!
If you have a few free minutes before you start warm up, head onto the floor for some games or even just to sit and talk!

-Journal time!
Making time for Gym Journals can seem intimidating and like a waste of your work out time. However, if your practices are productive it is quite easy to pencil in 5-10 minutes of time once every two weeks or so for journaling. I have been using them for almost a year now and there will be no turning back! I will also be writing a separate blog post about them if any of you are interested in starting.
